Trail Report: Lynn Loop

Route: Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve (LSCR) parking lot along Lynn Headwaters Connector. Right (northeast) up Lynn Loop/Lynn Peak. Continue north along Lynn Loop. At an obvious and signed fork turn west and descend via switchbacks to trail along valley floor. Left (south, down river) to Lynn Headwaters parking lot. Varley Trail back to LSCR parking lot. (Map)

Notes: Trail is well-signed. Steep climb from the connector and back down to Headwaters Trail but otherwise relatively level. Very rocky in places. Tremendous number of blow-down trees (cleared from the trail, but still nearby). No spectacular views, but the forest is superb. It would be easier to run this loop in this direction (which is to say counter-clockwise). The hill between the valley floor and the upper trail is steeper and longer at the north end.

Trail Bears

Black Bear in Iskut

Originally uploaded by TFM.

This morning, while coming back from the Seymour Hatchery along the Seymour Trailway, I encountered a black bear on the trail. The bear popped out of the bush at Clear Creek, at the 8.5km mark. Thankfully, I was on a bicycle!

Ordinals

As he approached bridge number 3 in Princess Park, Thomas announced that we were going to cross the ‘third bridge.’ Seems like a vocabulary milestone to me.

Thanks for a Great Toronto Trip

Thomas and I had a great trip to Toronto and Mississauga last week. Thomas had a fantastic time traveling on the TTC all around Toronto with Tia Vicky. (And thanks to Tia Vicky and Tio Rob for making it possible for me to take off to my conference.)

We also had lots of fun at Granny-Gramps’ place. There, we gardened, played with trains, and traveled to local parks. We went up to Melville and to Orangeville for more family visits. And, we had a terrific sleepover at the Brights … bikes, bubbles, picnics, and lots of fun.

Check out an assortment of pictures on Flickr.
