Kangaroo Sores

Overheard… Mama, I have an owie in my mouth. I think I have a kangaroo sore. I must have swallowed a kangaroo.

“That Crazy Slide is Super Cool”

… says Thomas as we arrive at the bottom of the West Vancouver Aquatic Centre water slide.

(Glad to see he isn’t having any trouble with colloquialisms.)

The daffodils may be out in North Vancouver, but the change in seasons didn’t stop the boys from skiing on Grouse this morning. The snow was new and very soft (reportedly!).

Overheard on the Chairlift …

Papa:

Thomas, that was great. You skied the top part of the hill all by yourself. Fantastic!

Thomas:

Yah. [No pause]
We’re on chair number fourteen. Fourteen Papa.
Papa look: tower number 1!

To Stop? To Slide? The Question …

Thomas continues to improve his skiing skills each week. Today, he skied the rope tow hill twice without my help. He also skied the top section of ‘The Cut’ twice by himself. The Cut is Grouse’s signature run and about a third of the hill has a very shallow pitch.

But, from an instructional point of view, I have found a new challenge. Thomas and I regularly play the classic toddler ski game ‘red light, green light.’ But Thomas is so good at stopping, I am having trouble convincing him to try and move slowly while his skis are in a plow. He either moves or stops; there’s no middle ground.

I’m sure he will overcome this and learn that limited pressure in a plow will allow him to ski in control.
