Allie had a Happy Birthday yesterday. She wanted to touch the candle flame on the cake. She helped unwrap her presents. She loved the wrapping paper and tags. She posed for the camera.

Northern Camping Trip

At Tyhee Lake

Originally uploaded by The Kids and Kahlie

Part II of our summer driving trip is complete. We have had a good time traveling all over British Columbia by car and ferry. Thomas and I drove the car to Smithers where we met Allie and Mariela. On the way to Smithers, we camped at Marble Canyon near Lillooet, Ten Mile Lake at Quesnel, and at Tyhee Lake at Smithers. We located geocaches at Ten Mile and Tyhee lakes.

We headed to Iskut after picking up Mariela and Allie. We saw several old friends there. The kids visited the hunting camps and tried moose meat for the first time. Our campsite was tremendously windy, however, and we decided to move on to Stewart sooner than expected. We traded wind for rain — and for bears — and they were a welcome relief.

Our trip home was neat. We boarded BC Ferry’s Northern Adventure at 6a on Wednesday morning in Prince Rupert. The small boat was fun. We had a cabin to retreat to when we needed it. But, we enjoyed the sights of the inside passage from inside the playroom and from the ship’s deck. We arrived in Port Hardy on northern Vancouver Island on Wednesday evening at about 11p. Thomas enjoyed being rocked to sleep during a rough patch just north of Port Hardy.

We have updated the Summer Road Trip album on Flickr.

Thomas’ Big Catch on the Santa Barbara Pier

The cousins went fishing today, and Thomas caught his very first fish. There was a bit of competition from nearby pelicans - one even broke into our bait. The boy cousins have been having a great time hanging out - not only fishing, but going out for breakfast, playing in the pool and taking turns feeding Allie.

We’re seeking geocaches around town. This is a really fun game where you upload coordinates to caches to your GPS unit and then try to find the treasures. Last night, we found a cache called Hidden Princess in Princess Park. It was a yellow canister with trinkets and toys in it. There was a log book inside too.

The picture shows Thomas and I deep in the woods looking at the contents of the cache. Click here for the cache page on geocaching.com.

Somehow we’ve fallen behind with the blogging. We could have blogged hourly from Tofino … although the wireless connection didn’t quite reach the beach. Our time there was fantastic. Thank you, Granny and Gramps.

Get a sense of things by looking at the Tofino album on flickr. It has photos and videos.

First Tooth!

Allie cut her first tooth today. She is being really tough about it, but is pretty drooly.

Once upon a time, I was in Whistler. I like it there. I was on the LUGE! And, on the luge, it was VERY fun. And I really like everyone in Whis-i-ler.

I went with Papa, Dave and Nikki, Ryan and Mama. Don’t forget Allie.

The end.

Uncle Gavin loves me to dance.

That’s it.

Allie is the mermaid in the lake

Allie is the mermaid in the lake

Once upon a time there was my friend Allie and she was a mermaid. And I really like her. There was Henry, Douglas and Molly and they are trains. And I really like them. The trains said they went over the bridge and then they went down and then I carried them over something. And then Allie the mermaid was the most beautiful mermaid of all. Well she dived and she splashed and she got a tail at the end and she got long hair. Allie the mermaid rescued the trains and the trains rescued Allie. the End.

MPS (Mama Post Script): Thomas invited Allie to come and play with his trains. He asked me to put her right in the middle of the track so he could pretend that she was a mermaid in a lake surrounded by train tracks. He then acted out a great story with the trains and Allie.
